A record of every signature
- Every signing produces a signing record as a PDF, alongside the signed document.
- It lists each signer by name and email, with the time the email was sent, the link opened, and the document viewed, started and completed.
- It also records the IP address, browser and operating system, and time zone of each signer.
- It carries a unique fingerprint of the document before and after signing, so a copy can be checked against the record.
- You and every signer can download the signed PDF and the signing record.

How we count documents
A document counts once, when the first person signs it. Sending costs you nothing until then.
On the free plan, a document you have sent that nobody has signed yet holds its place in your 3-document limit until it is signed or expires.
Common questions
Are signatures legally binding?
In South Africa, section 13 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act says a signature cannot be refused legal force only because it is electronic. For most everyday agreements, such as service agreements, quotes and consent forms, that is enough when everyone agrees to sign this way.
The law does not allow some documents to be signed electronically, such as wills and agreements for the sale of land, and some documents may need an advanced electronic signature. zaSign provides standard electronic signatures, not advanced ones.
We are not a law firm, so please check with an attorney about important documents. Our Terms set out what we do and do not promise.
Is zaSign POPIA compliant?
We built zaSign to collect only what we need to run the service. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it and which providers help us deliver it, for example email delivery.
No product can be certified as POPIA compliant, because the Information Regulator does not issue certificates. Compliance is about how a business handles personal information.
